2. Why have you chosen these
levels.
My favourite would have to be fribdev1
(powder keg). It's a fantastic play in 1 on 1 or ffa (in my humble opinion
:). Efdm5 (vortex) is also a favourite, because it's attractive, atmospheric
and the r_speeds are particularly low. Efdm6 (gunmetal) is also very atmospheric,
and very vertical... plus it has 2 grenade launchers, so you can't really
go wrong :). All of these maps are fast-paced and chaotic, and very vertical...
furthermore they all feature the quad damage (muhahaha :)... meaning they
are exactly the kind of maps I really enjoy playing :).
3. Which is your least favourite
level, if you think you have one!.
Sure I have a "worst level".. although
it's a bit of a toss up as to which is the worst of the lot :). I'd probably
have to say efdm3... quite simply, it's dead boring to play.
4. What map editor do you use?
Stoneless.
5. What level editing tips do
you have for other authors?
Map editing, as with pretty much
anything worth doing, takes time, practice and patience to get results.
The main thing I'd say to aspiring authors is be persistent... stick at
it, collect as much information as you can from the web and spend some
time getting to know the editor.
6. How long have you been making
Quake/Quake 2 maps.
About one year.
7. What do you enjoy about making
maps.
It's hard to put your finger on anything
specific. I will say though, that's it's an immensly satisfying and rewarding
experience to come up with a quality map for a game you love. It's also
great to know that other people appreciate you work... I don't get much
"fan mail", but I like it when a total stranger emails me out of the blue
and says "hey, I loved that map, that rocks!" :). I also get a lot of support
and encouragement from friends in the online quake community. However I'd
still be making maps, even if they never got played... I
find the whole process enjoyable.
It's more of an art than a science, in the sense that you "create" rather
than "construct" a map... you start with a blank "canvas" and see
what you can come up with... you can never really plan it out, you just
have to strap in for the ride and see where it takes you :).
8. What plans you have for the
future, with map making in mind.
(Say if you got a job in the
industry related to map making).
I don't think I'll be stopping anytime
soon, even if I wanted to... mapping is very addictive :). I'm content
to continue pumping out the
free Q1 (and possibly Q2 :) maps
for the moment, although if someone wants to pay me to do it I'd be more
than happy to accept :). I'd probably still want to create the free custom
maps for Q1, even if I was working on mapsfor another game/company.
9. Which is your favourite game
out of Quake and Quake2 and why?
Quake 1, because it's a hell of a
lot more fun to play :). Q2 is slow and clumsy... I've heard the word "bricklike"
used to describe Q2 gameplay, sounds pretty appropriate to me :).
10. Some self publicity, if you
have a website whats it called and whats it address
http://www.planetquake.com/frib/
Frib's Maps.
Creative huh? :)
