2. Why have you chosen these
levels.
When I made UKPAK6 I knew this was
going to be my last, so I added a few things to make it humorous... the
pot of yellow paint with brush that I used to produce the graffiti you
find in my maps... the holiday posters on the walls depicting my previous
maps... the quad you can't reach, just look at all those bricks ! Well
it makes me laugh anyway. Hope it gets played some time.
Androm9, I like because it flows
very well, it can get very fast and furious, good fun to play.
TitanII, this is a big map I got
some of the ideas from the Quake2 screen shots before it was released.
It looks and feels big, but still plays at a good speed.
3. Which is your least favourite
level, if you think you have one!.
That has to go to Ukcl4x1 not one
of my better maps :( too much lava to fall in and no standard architecture,
it was also quite big, but of course that was on purpose, as it was meant
for four clans to play at the same time.
4. What map editor do you use?
Worldcraft, I have tried others,
but I found Worldcraft much easier to use. I'm all for making life easy.
5. What level editing tips do
you have for other authors?
First have some idea what you want
to do, make a test room to test out part of the design and textures, it
helps to get the feel of the map before you get too far. Once you have
done that, now plan the map on paper, all of it, you can't really expect
to make a good map with out some overall plan. You don't have to stick
to it too rigidly though, I don't :) make some changes as you go along.
I would recommend not spending too much time in one area, get most of the
map roughly working, then work on the finer points.
Try too think of the map being played
over the internet with modem players, imagine how they might get stuck
on bits of walls, trying to get through narrow doorways, and make it accordingly.
6. How long have you been making
Quake/Quake 2 maps.
As soon as Quake was released I started
to make maps, the first one I completed was ukcldm2, which is still the
best !
7. What do you enjoy about making
maps.
Creating worlds that other people
can enjoy being in is a great feeling. I am very lucky to have had so many
of my maps played so much in the UK. Many thanks to all those that decided
to use them in matches, and to all those who voted for my maps, cheers.
8. What plans you have for the
future, with map making in mind.
(Say if you got a job in the
industry related to map making).
Now that Q3test has been released,
I can't wait till Quake3 Arena is finished. It looks great, and plays much
better that Quake2, so it's no more Quake maps from me now, just Quake3.
9. Which is your favourite game
out of Quake and Quake2 and why?
Quake. I never really got into Quake2,
even though the maps look a lot better, I just did not like it. I think
it was down to the weapons, and how slow they were. Also net play at start
with was not very good, it didn't have, and still doesn't have that snappy
feel to movement that Quake has. Quake3 Arena though seems to have captured
that feel again.
10. Some self publicity, if you
have a website what is it called and what is its address
Slayers Quake
