2. Why have you chosen these
levels.
APDM1 because I love it in teamplay
and when the trap works it's so funny. Also I love some of the cool tricks
that can be done on it. KTDM2 (v2, remember) because not only are there
cool tricks to be done but it is surprisingly good fun 1on1 as well as
in small ffa battles. I like KTDM8 because it's another great map
in teamplay.
3. Which is your least favourite
level, if you think you have one!.
Yeah, I have one alright. APDM0.
It's the first map I ever released (surprise surprise) and although I loved
it when I had just finished it I
soon realised that it was WAY too
small and the volume of the rooms was pretty stupid - you got caught on
stuff all the time (and feel in lava at the bottom of the main room constantly)
I could send you a copy if you like but you'd just laugh.
4. What map editor do you use?
Worldcraft 1.6a because it was basically
the first one I ever had the chance to use and when I tried other I was
too used to Worldcraft to give them a chance (Worldcraft is very easy to
learn and use).
5. What level editing tips do
you have for other authors?
Uhm, er... size is everything! scale
your rooms to a reasonable size, don't make things too large or too
small.
6. How long have you been making
Quake/Quake 2 maps.
quite a long time. The first I made
was almost two years ago although I have't made that many in that time
because I have been doing my A-levels (eek).
7. What do you enjoy about making
maps.
nothing to be honest, they are a
complete pain in the arse to make. The amount of things that can go wrong
and when you just feel unhappy with a nearly finished level and scrap it
mean that it can be a frustrating hobby. Really though, I love to be getting
along with a map and see my creation taking form in front of me. Playing
them at the end is the best part though.
8. What plans you have for the
future, with map making in mind.
(Say if you got a job in the
industry related to map making).
Get KT-imPAKt finished off asap.
After that I don't know how much time I'll have as I should be at Exeter
uni doing a degree. However, I'd like to make a Teamfortress 2 map as the
game looks really promising and I love TFC (when I can get a good connection).
Of course, I'll almost certainly be making some Q3 maps. If a job opportunity
would ever arise then I'd be more than happy to make maps for a living
(I do love mapping really :)
9. Which is your favourite game
out of Quake and Quake2 and why?
Quake 2, it feels more strategic
due to it's slower pace and unless I'm on a high ping I don't find myself
sticking to the rocket launcher all the time (ala Quake). Quake 2 is far
more enjoyable in teamplay in my opinion and I am in a pretty good clan
(although we are division 5) called Outlaws - my Quake 2 nick is [OUT]Than.
Just accept it, Paul, Quake 2 is better and you know it :)
Paul's response : Yeah right,
and monkeys fly out of my butt =).
10. Some self publicity, if you
have a website what is it called and what is its address
Well, Killer
and I are working on KT-imPAKt together (an 8 level map pack for Quake
2). It's website is at http://www.planetquake.com/ktimpakt.
I do have my own site but it hasn't been updated since, ooh, November last
year and it doesn't work in Netscape (what does?). Still, if anyone actually
wants to go laugh at it or read my comprehensive GTA tips or Curse of Monkey
Island guide then its at: http://clans.quake2.co.uk/dystopia/thanatopsis
