Happy New Year ^

by Paul - Friday 01 January 1999 @ 07:13

Headshot has given me the go ahead to mirror the qboard here and I've now put a link to it on the side panel.

*HAPPY NEW YEAR!* Hope you've all had or are going to have a good time where ever you are.

No new stuff on the site yet, just some tidying up since its the New year now. All news has been archived, theres a link to old news at the top of the page.

Thanks to all the people who send emails and pictures of how the site looks in high resolutions. As I thought the Netscape version of the site does look wierd. The Internet Explorer version, on the other hand, has no such problems =). I recommend you all convert to Internet Explorer then you'll have the lovely T.V. style look.

Almost New Year Reviews ^

by Paul - Wednesday 30 December 1998 @ 07:11

Ok, I'm back now after a short Christmas break. I'm getting the Top 10 Quake and Quake 2 maps of the year ready and I'm also working on some Quake reviews. I should, hopefully, have the reviews and the Top 10 up on the site by Saturday.

Those of you that visit Headshot's, Retinal's and Frib's websites will have noticed the qboard. This is Headshots very own webboard. I've asked to mirror it here, so I should hopefully be able to link it up here. I recommend map authors go look at it now, its full of helpful map making info.

Having had a look at the counters on the and pages it would appear that the Quake 2 reviews are just slightly more popular than the Quake reviews =P. The good thing about these counters is I get loads of details about the people who visit the site. For example the majority of visitors to the Quake page use 800x640 resolution and IE4. I was surprised to find some people use 1600x1200!!! If you use a resolution higher than 1024x768, email me and tell me does the site look ok?

Counter People ^

by Paul - Saturday 26 December 1998 @ 07:10

Observant people may have noticed that Monsto and myself have put counters at the bottom of the and pages. Its basically to show which is the most popular page. I've only just put the Quake counter in so Monsto's got a head start =).

Merry Christmas ^

by Paul - Friday 25 December 1998 @ 07:10

*MERRY CHRISTMAS* to all you Quakers. Hope you're all having a good Christmas where ever you are.

Monsto has done 3 more reviews and I've now uploaded all archives for all the reviews I've done, pop over to the page and go from there. The majority of levels with 4+ have pictures with them. Some reviews are little wierd though because they relate to pictures which aren't there, I'll get round to sorting that out soon. (ie. re-write the review)

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have a copy of old archives for the site, when Taskmaster ran the site. We don't have them and neither does Taskmaster. Any help would be good!

Xori has released his first Quake 2 map, which I recommend you go download now.

I've also added another link, its for The House Of CleaN which is a map author site. The site includes some tips for map making which are worth a look.

Old stuff up ^

by Paul - Tuesday 22 December 1998 @ 07:08

After discussions with various people I've uploaded the reviews for and maps for the last month. Pictures aren't working in all of them since some use the same names and I've got to get it properly sorted. I eventually hope to have all the reviews I've done up, but theres over 60 of them and some need to be converted from the various site formats so it may take a while.

I've also fixed Skorpion's site link since this daft git left a fullstop in which stopped the link from working... Ahem. Sorry!

Nearly Crimbo ^

by Paul - Monday 21 December 1998 @ 07:07

Heres this weeks and reviews. The have been updated so don't forget to look there.

A *big* thank you to Mr Shambler for spamming all the message boards he knows to make sure people vote for their top 10 maps. While I'm at it go visit his site, TEAMShambler Quake Level Reviews

Some new links to check out as well, like Skorpion's Omibot Page. This site has loads of route files for the Omicron bot (my preferred bot). I may have a rant to put up soon as well, on how we review your maps. Should be an interesting read =).

Also just for fun, which maps were used in the site logo?

Quake 2 Reviews ^

by Paul - Monday 14 December 1998 @ 07:06

Monsto has come up with 3 more reviews and 2 are TOP rated!!!

Since you peeps have been asking me so much about it, here is a fully working, properly checked, totally correct, 100% prefect link for Kaffe & Kaka 2.0. Its a local link since the authors link is about as reliable as a Lada. Hope you're all happy now =P.

This is something that relates *ONLY TO QUAKE REVIEWS*. I am willing to accept older maps. The Submit Levels page says submit recent work. I'm not that bothered. Do not, however, hand in your entire back catalogue of maps, now that would annoy me. Why am I do doing this? I have no Quake maps to review at the moment so need something to cover this =).

Reviews me thinks ^

by Paul - Sunday 13 December 1998 @ 07:04

Its a good job I'd done the majority of the update yesterday because right now I feel like $%#. Don't know whats caused it. Its as if someones poured concrete down my neck and my head is being pounded by a pneumatic drill. Anyway, here are this weeks batch of and reviews. The majority of the Quake levels are big maps this week which makes a change. As always check the if you missed last weeks reviews.

Gonzo has moved his site Gonz-O-Matic from Telefragged to PlanetQuake. Pop over there and gaze at how good his site looks =).

The final two Featured Author interviews are up. They are Danimal and Killjoy. Speaking of Killjoy, he has just moved his site from Geocities to Terrafusion.

Another crazy thought of mine. Top 10 Quake and Quake 2 maps of 1998. Send in details of your favourite 3 maps of 1998. It'll appear at the end of December so start voting now.

Site regular, Pingu, has written a little rant. Its about how boring some games are today and its similiar to what I've said in my Half-Life rant (which I've nearly finished writing).

I've got a little disclaimer here which I've added to the submit levels page. Basically if you can't download a level then its not our problem, its the authors. I could upload all the maps here but I have limited time on the net so its easier on my part to give the link the author does. Off couse if a bad link looks like a typo please do tell us and it will be fixed.

Just thought I'd mention GLDoom. Excellent piece of software. Its a amazing achievement considering it was written in Bruces spare time. I do have to say it chugged a bit on some maps (I'm running it on a P200 64mb, Voodoo2 12mb), but overall it was fairly smooth. Certainly adds a new lease of live to the old game.
