efdm13 - Double Vision

Frib has a back catalogue of classic DM maps to his name, each with a different theme, but I never thought I’d see another release from him, luckily he surprised us all with a sudden release. As with his previous maps Frib has continued with his love of custom textures, this time using a mixture of Quake II and headshot textures along with lots of slime to give a cool industrial sewage works feel to the map.

The layout is huge, both vertically and horizontally. At the centre of the map is a large, four-storey atrium, with several other smaller atriums and rooms surrounding it. There is also a small out side area that containing a river of slime, beneath which lies the pentagram of protection. There are two ways to get to this area, either by jumping through a window or grabbing a teleporter hidden in some slime. However, there is only one way out, involving a quick swim through some slime.

The map plays fast in a 5 – 9 player FFA, although you can drop down to as few as three players, or a 4 Vs 4 – 6 Vs 6 team game. You will need deathmatch 3 turned on whatever size game you play however, or the game will turn into a series of shotgun fights or being gibbed by whoever has a rocket launcher. The weapons are spread out well around the map, but you will find yourself heading straight for one of the two rocket launchers as any other weapon just won’t do for this map.

The one problem I had with the map was the bots. Even with the route installed they refuse to go for the pentagram or go into the slime at all. It is also very rare for them to go for the quad as well, although I did see them go for it a couple of times. Apart from these problems the bots play the map well and give you a good game of it.

# 1. MH Room / Anal attention to detail ^

I've played this level at least a dozen times with 5 or more people and I'm never surprised to see that I am the only one who knows where the MH is and how to get it. I wasn't, however, surprised to see no mention of it here. /me wonders if grindspire found it. It can definitely give you a little edge in a heated game.

I found it, bloody big room for a single MH Frib. Although the barrels at least break it up a bit.
