Comments on Beta Section for Site. ^

by Paul - Friday 27 October 2000 @ 07:04

killazontherun suggested in the Comments/Suggestions thread about adding a Beta Section to the site, kinda like LvL :). My only reservation is that there may not be enough maps being made to make it worthwhile doing it.

What are everyones comments on me going ahead with this idea.

But on LvL most of the maps in the BETA section are from unheard of or not that known authors and because it's Q3a there are lot's of these peep.

But in Q1 it's mainly the more known authors that we get maps from and not that many new peep will bother with Quake1 so I'm not sure how many peep would use it.

Plus if a BETA is up it will spoil the final map when it is released as it won't be such a big suprise, like on the Comments On Map Screenies on QMap, I dunno, could be good tho.

You could try it and see how many peep use it then take it down if it ain't popular, then again with the visitor numbers that use to mount on MPQ it might be very popular.

Beta section... sounds good... Im unfamiliar with the .:LVL section so I'm geussing its a bunch of URL's to the maps... and people can look at them (if they want) and offer they're insights as to what would make the map better (Am I correct?)

If this is the case...then it sounds good... Yes it probably won't be very busy...but that just means that the maps that do get released will be ever so much better!! (well they should be in theory)

I've just had a quick look at LvL to see how its done and you have all the normal map info, some author comments on the map and a screenie. People then give their comments on it.

Heres the link if you're interested:

I'm correctly still pondering on the idea atm. Hmmm. Ponder.

# 4. No. ^

I say "No". Reasons:

1. Extra work for Paul

2. QMap provides very good testing facility anyway.
