Quake is 5 years old!!! ^

Well I can't believe it's been 5 years. I remember playing the test demos on my 486 dx2 and p100, and thinking wow! And also thinking how crappy my dx2 was with its 4Mb of ram. I also remember the first time I saw MPQ when it was run by Warren Marshall (now works at Legend Entertainment). I'd religiously come each weekend to download all the maps (yes, all of them). One of the high points was seeing Escher's De Bello Quakero get a 5 out of 5 and just being gob smacked by its looks. It still looks good today and that map is nearly 4 years old!
Ahh fond memories...

I'm probably one of the few that wasn't a fan of De Bello Quakero. :) But it's great to see Quake still going after all that time. It's no real suprise though since it's a one of a kind experience and the best fps out there. =)

The first time I played quake was on a 16MHz computer with a 1Mb onboard graphics card - ahhh....320 x 200 in software mode, those were the days. It's a testament to the popularity of the game that it has advanced so much with time.
And despite the best efforts of gaming companies I still think you can't beat good ol' Quake for fun - be it playing or mapping.
Here's to another five, Quake.
